Night class for me in HK?

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

After 1 mth plus, I am more or less settle down in HK. Be it home or work, I am getting used to it. Of course, one thing I will never get use to is the pollutant indicator in HK. Every single day is middle to slightly high index (index range from 55-80+) as compare to Singapore, which is always in a healthy range except for the recent haze from Indonesia.

Talking back abt attending class after work. In Singapore, I have been doing night class while I was serving my national service. It was definitely a tough one especially when I was still serving my national service. My camp is in Changi, the east side of Singapore and I have to attend night class in Singapore Polytechnic which is in the West of Singapore. So, it is not easy for me as I have to rush to class from camp and trying to stay awake while I was in class after a long day in camp.

In HK, hmm… I am still thinking what type of course I want to take up but I doubt I am able to commit myself for course that may take yrs to complete as I may travel often soon. Currently, what I have in mind is more or less to polish up my English language. Not that I cant speak any English, given the kind of environment in HK where Cantonese is the main speaking language, I afraid my standard of English will relaspe further. So, attending this type of class will help me to remind intact with the language as well as to correct mistakes that I am not aware of. At the same time, improve on the language as well. Beside that, hopefully, I will be able to make new friends so that my life in HK, especially at night wont be that bore. Cheers!

What I have for lunch today?

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

Hmm.. Finally, I have a taste of those road side food for meal. Normally, I work till 1300hrs on Sat and my uncle will always ask me and my grandma to eat chinese food.. Sigh.. Sometimes, I do get bore eating chinese food all the time. Especially in HK… Chinese resturants are always full packed and pple are willing to wait for hours for the Q just to "饮茶". Admire their "standing power". Wow…

Anyway, back to my lunch. I had this "牛什" and "牛柏叶" as my main course. "牛什" actually is the cow’s organs like liver, intestine, stomach, etc… It is best with yellow wasabi source (Think spell correct!). As for "牛柏叶", I am not so sure which part of the cow but it is also my must to eat whenever I am in the chinese resturants or road side stalls.  Of course, not to forget my desert of "芒椰奶西". It is a cup drink and we use those bubble tea straw to suck up the fresh mango. It also has some coconut milk and "西米露" and it definitely a perfect drink for pple with sweet tooth.  Yummy yummy..

My left back is damn aching sia…

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Dont know why… I feel this sudden pain on my left back today after I went to Mong Kok… Sigh… I think I walked too much to look for my brother and my friend stuffs… My younger bro asked me to help him to look for 2 Nike shoes and after walking for the whole road that sells shoes, I cant find any. So same for my friend for his hp cover. In the end, bought myself 2 shorts and a doll to hang in  my car when I go back to Singapore. Haha… maybe too much of walking which caused such a pain on my back.

Thinking back how I got this pain… I think it is a past injury that I got when I was in South Korea skating, think was 3 to 4 yrs back, early Dec. The snow that time wasnt thick at all and the resort has to rely on human-made snow to create that snow surface. I think partly also my fault… Trying to show off or 班门弄斧. Havnt got the technique and went straight to skate from the mountain top-down. In the end, that whole lap was like over a short distance, I cant remember how many times I have to take off my skate plate and stand up and put it on again… and repeat everything again and again. Sigh… The killer part is where some areas, there isnt any thick snow for me to fall on to reduce the impact… It is just a pure piece of ice that you can see in the normal fridge if you happen to spill any water inside and leave it to condense. That was the kind of ice I fell on… Imagine below it is the hard ground… Sigh… But funny part is that though I didnt got the technique well, at least I remember that if going to fall, always fall on the "fleshy" buttock to reduce the impact. Haha… Maybe even for falling, I didnt got the technique well as well. That’s why end up having this pain in me for so long.

Sigh.. why.. I feel that I have been in and out of chinese sinseh shops quite often. Even during my NS time, all my instructors called me the "Chinese sinseh". Whenever there is any stand by bed, they always can find chinese medicine in my cupboard and even few days before POP, my plt sgt even asked my roommate to pass me a msg that say "Tell Rec Liao to pack his chinese sinseh ’shop’ "… which was referring to my cupboard. Haha…

Air-con Bus Vs Non Air-con Bus

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Taking public bus is so much different from the past. Remember abt 10 years back, Air-con buses were so rare to see on the road. Unlike today, almost all public buses have Air-con. There is no difference in Hong Kong too. Sometimes, it is so cold that as if you feel like winter during Summer time.

What I find funny abt this is that what will be the impression of passenger/s waiting in the bus-stop when it suddenly, a Non Air-con bus appears. This is what I heard from a passenger while I was waiting for the bus to go to my client’s office - "哗!返乡下啦!" (in Cantonese, english means go back to rural places). I was like… almost burst into laughter coz that’s also the bus that I want to take. Though I do like to have an Air-con bus but since I was rushing to meet my client, I have no choice and took the bus. Otherwise, it may take me another 10 mins or so since it was 10+ which is outside peak hours.

Sigh… Technology has been giving us so much of comfort that sometimes, we need to think back whether do we abuse it leh?

In deep thoughts

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I feel quite weird that I have so many things to think in my mind these few days. Whether is it partly coz I feel lonely, therefore I have so many things to think abt.. I really not sure. But what I know is that I do feel tired after all these thinking.

Hmmm… Thinking back, it has been abt 1 mth since I left for Hong Kong. So far, everything is fine and basically I adapt to life in Hong Kong. Maybe what worry me sometime is work. It is always easier say than done. I have studied Marketing course before back in Singapore and I do admit that I thought sales may be an easy thing to handle. Only when I personally experience it as a salesperson in the office, then I know how hard it is to be one. Have to be "thick skin" in a way that never feel embarrass when being rejected by client/s, never say die attitiude towards finding new clients, etc… Sigh, in simple words, I still not up to it and have plenty to learn.

That’s why for today, I was thinking and thinking and finally, I approached my cousin who is also working in the office for help. She does gave me some good points to note and yesh, it does help. Hopefully, I will be able to digest and put the advises into good use.

Feeling loneliness

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Hmm… I think loneliness is really one thing most of us must learn to conquer as we grow up. For me, who have left my comfort zone in Singapore and heading to Hong Kong to work is definitely a challenge for me. Both physically and mentally.

Yes, I have my relatives here but they cant simply accompany me all the time and I dont really want to disturb them that much. That’s when a friend means so important. I really miss those hanging out with friends in Singapore and when Bernard was in HK. Sigh… Feeling quite dull in HK.. Maybe to others, HK is regard as one of the good night places to hang out… Shopping, clubbing, anything you name it… I dont enjoy much with that when I am alone! Though I can speak Cantonese but how long for shopping let’s say in Causeway Point when pple around me are in groups, couples or anything… Gay? Haha…

Will attach heel? I mean not that we will be busy "boiling porridge" (in cantonese) with IDD charges but maybe what really missing in me is someone who care abt. I am referring to the special her. I did quite a lot of thinking in that for the past few days. After so long of singlehood, should I once again, having a partner with me? Currently, I may be a career-minded person but sometimes, I do ask myself, if I can find the special her who is able to assist me in my career, I think it will definitely be wonderful. That’s a adage says:"Behind every successful man, is a hard working, determined woman". Sigh… This world is so big… When will I find her leh? Hmmm… Let’s fate decide.

A friend of mine in HK

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

Yeah… finally, met up one of my ex-classmate, Bernard from BRD who was in Hk for 4 days … He arrived in Hk from Gungzhou on Fri (20/10) and I met him on 22/10/06 at Causeway Bay MTR station. He is still the same old him. Still tall and a funny guy. I can say still the same old him back in BRD. We went to nearby resturant to have dinner. As both of us are too bored with Chinese food, we head to Outback for steak. Haha… Really.. When we were asking one and other where to have dinner… First thing in mind was… No more chinese food! Haha… But the dinner was good and we had two bottles of Samuel adams beer each.

It was indeed, a good time to meet up with old friends. Especially friends whom have not been in contact for a long long time. After the dinner, we had a walk in Mong Kok before we head home as he prepared for his stuffs for his return flight to Indonesia. Hmmm… I missed once to meet up with another friend of mine earlier when she was posted in HK for two weeks for her training. Looking forward to any friends coming to HK and hopefully, by then, I should know more places so that I can bring you around. Haha.. Sorrie Bernard… Only one month and didnt knwo that many places around in HK… But I will, someday next year, planning to go and visit my friends in Indonesia as I may want to do some studying of Indonesia textile industry if I can.. Haha… Hopefully I will as I afraid I may be too engross of hanging out in shopping malls then visiting factories.

What a tiring day for me…

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

I dont know what happened to me today.. But I was a bit lost or blur in some sense.

Had an appointment with my client to take 2 fabric samples from her. I can go to her office by two ways. One way is by Bus, cost me HK$7.50 and it is just directly opposite my office, serparating by a busy road with overhead bridge. Another way is by MTR, cost me HK$5.60, which is HK$1.90 lesser… BUT has to walk at least 1 km I think… Guess my friends may thought that I will opt for by bus. But usually, I would go for MTR. Coz I can see more things… hmm… to guys, they will know what I am talking abt… Haha.. But true leh.. In my area, I notice that dont think those old warehouse buildings are only meant for old folks… GUYS… You will be wrong!!! You will surprise to see hip hop ladies coming out from the building hor and in my case, some are really damn pretty!!! Surprise me.. Haha… But back to the topic. Once I reached the station, I alight and didnt realise that the distance from the station (Lai Chi Kok) to her office is equally far from my office to station (Tsuen Wan). I walked and finally reached there.

This is where I start to get blur… I planned to visit one of the fabric supplier near her office to get some sample. This supplier share the similar role as my company but I go there just to see whether my competitor has what my client want and to ask fro pricing so that it will assist me to quotating my price. Supposingly, I just need to cross one main street, walk straight and I can see the supplier office building but in the end, I didnt cross that road and I walked from the starting to the ending of the road where my client office is which is WRONG. I was damn tired coz that road, I have spent almost 20 mins walking front to back and didnt find that building. In the end, I went to the MTR station where they usually display the map of the area near that particular staton. Then I realise that I got it wrong for the past 20 mins or so… Sigh…

That’s still havnt come into stop… When I reach my station to return back to office… Thought that I may want to take green top light bus back from the station since I was tired after spending 20 mins or so walking… This green top light bus usually stop right in front of my office building but let me tell all my friends who may want to come to HK and may opt to go for these green top light bus as transport. Passenger has to tell the driver before hand where to alight… I mean yes, they have to be the assign alighting bus stop but when nobody called, the driver may take short cut and out of the original path and save time. This was what I had… I thought someone from behind shouted my office building name but then… Instead of going straight at the T-junction and stop few meters away from the junction, he turned into the left filter lane… I was like.. "Erm.. Didnt someone called for alighting?".. And my office building slowly disappear behind me… To calm myself… I told myself maybe the driver will stop somewhere in front but I was damn unlucky that it didnt. It drove me at least 2 km away from my office!!! Sigh.. Sad.. I had enough of walking and walking… By the time I walked back to my office… I was extre thirsty, feet were extre aching and worse of all… Still have my client’s fabric samples to follow up.

What happened today I do hope will not happen anytime in the near future. When I go back to Singapore, I really need a gd massage, especially my feet…

Problem.. Big problem

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Just few days ago, I received this msg in my nokia phone. Reading that my symantec mobile virus scan thing expired on my HK SIM card. Knowing that I cant access WAP on my HK SIM card, I changed into my Singtel SIM card and it prompt me to purchase the software (which I believe should be re-newing my software). Everything go extre fine… I mean when I use my Singtel SIM card. But once I change into my HK SIM card… Sigh… It reads "License Manager file is missing or corrupted…". I was like "Huh? I paid almost S$40.00 and I got this thing"… Anyway, I have wrote to the support department and hopefully, they will solve my problem ASAP…

What I do after work?

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Hmm.. In HK, as I have lost my HK friend’s contact long long time ago… So, I can say life in HK is abit boring coz after work, I usually head home. Though I understand that HK night life is always exciting but going alone is too dangerous for me as I am alone. Only during weekends, then I might ask my Yi Zhang out for a drink outside as I do not want to disturb him working during weekdays.

What I do at home in weekdays is surfing net or play PC games. Channel news asia website has become my must-to-visit wenpage and it has even become my home page. Haha.. That’s coz I dont want to lost touch with Singapore and also not to lost track of english language. Of course, writing my blog is another thing that I do while online. Other than that, I just wait for time to slp… and to wake up for another day of work.

I do feel lonely here as most of my friends are in Singapore. Really miss those time of hanging out at night, watching movies, have a cup of drink and chat all we can… Sigh… Anyway, maybe I should really start to make friends here. If my blog has not been update regularly, I guess my friends can tell that I have make friends over in HK :)
