Morning breakfast at CBTL

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Today morning I went to Coffeebean & Tealeaf @ East Coast as usual with my parents. It is just a normal breakfast but I think it is the very first time that I see such a pretty gal. Haha… I am not making this kind of thing big but of course, we do see girls everywhere, old, young, pretty, average, normal… but this girl has a very sweet and elegant look. At that time, she was with an European man… I think the man’s age is quite old… But I think somehow she knows that I am looking at her from time to time… haha… oopss… Definitely, it does sweeten my breakfast a lot… hahaha… At the same time, it does hurt a single guy like me. Coz this may indicate that local guys (Maybe I can count myself 50-50) may not look attractive enough… Therefore, girls like her may want to get foreigners as a accompanion.

Flying off to HK, 21st Sept 06

Friday, August 25th, 2006

The date of my up-coming HK trip most likely will be set on 21st Sept 06. Which mean abt 3 more weeks before I pack my stuff and head to a new environment.

After staying in Singapore for more than 13 years, I think it is time to leave this comfort zone and head to else where to venture out. But do excuse me, I am not saying anything bad abt Singapore here but just that I strongly feel that as my company is a distributor and we do all our sourcing in China, it will definitely hard for me to stay locally as it will invlove unnecessary processes which will eventually lead to wastage of resources. Singapore is definitely a very nice place and I will sure want to spend my retirement years here. But for the young and giving an opportunity to work in places like HK, I doubt I will reject such an offer to explore new things. Addition to the above point, I am young and energetic. Some more, I love to travel… Really… I have plans once I adapt to working life in HK. I want to go to places like Taiwan, Japan, Middle East, etc. This will expand my culture knowledge of different countries and plus point, to expand my networking.

For my friends in Singapore, I am sure I will be back to Singapore at least twice a year. First trip will fall on during Chinese New Year as both my parents are in Singapore. So, I hope at least I will come back to celebrate with them. At the same time, I will visit my local clients as well as explore new clients in Singapore. e.g. Gap, hopefully. My dad tried once to negotiate with them but no deal was being made. Second trip will be somewhere between May to June. The reason for coming back is to complete my 10-year of NSman cycles. I dont have much invlovement in the sales activities as it is not my company peak sales volume period. So, can have time coming back to serve my NS.. Haha…

Friendster screw up my account.. Sigh

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

I am not sure whether this happened while they tried to do some maintainance for friendster but one thing I know, all my customise setting are gone… what happened? Spent a lot of time editing and now, everything is gone.. Sigh… maybe when I have sometime, I will re-do again… in the mean time, just live with what I got…

Finally.. The exams are over

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Yeah.. The exams are over. For this semester, I have two major exams and so far, I think I can do better.. Haha.. Always have this kind of feeling. Looking at my preparation time table, I have more than sufficient time to revise but just that I also have to work in the morning. Hehe.. Anyway, I did my best to throw out whatever thing I remember from the text. The next thing is whether the marker can digest my answer or not… Hopefully he/she will! Better digest! Hehe..

A taste of Failure

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

After returning from my 2nd trip to Hong Kong, I was given a task by my elder cousin to follow up a client in Singapore. In total, I have visited this client twice and was eagerly hoping to receive a good news from my cousin that they strike a deal with this client. Unfortunately, this client didnt coz our fabrics didnt match those that he needed. So, sadly, I was a bit disappointed.

It is all coz that he is my very 1st client after I got into textile industry and the fact that no deal is done is partly coz he is preparing for his last batch of spring/summer garment and my 1st visit is consider towards the end of their searching for textile materials which they will send over to garment manufacturer and make into garment. Anyway, though yes, I was disappointed but it is just the beginning. There may many more unexpected things to happen. Be it a successful or unsuccessful deal/s. But I always tell myself that "A taste of failure will make a man appreciate the taste of success even more".

4th Anniversary!

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Today (14/08/06) mark my 4th year after I got my driving license. Nothing speaical actually. Haha… But just that so far, everything is fine whenever I drive on the road. Thanks God. Only some ‘minor’ and ‘major’ scatches to my car… Sigh… That was in the beginning stage when I just got my license. Not use to the vehicle at first.. So these are some of the ‘fees’ need to pay loh… hahha. Anyway, I am looking fwd to own my very first car! Hopefully will save enough for a sport car first. hmm… Think abt it again, still long way le…

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Coming this Dec 06, it shall mark my 14 years of stay in Singapore.

I can say, 13 years ago, a family of six from Hong Kong, decided to migrate to this small piece of land in the world map. And me, I was then a primary 5 student back in HK. Knowing nothing abt mandarin and little knowledge in english, only know simple words like beautiful and not to say speaking it. Dropped to primary 4 when I entered into local primary school n of course, the 1st year in new environment was tough. I could say extremely tough. No friends n couldnt speak the common language which is english. Everyday conversation was as though speaking like chicken and duck (phase to chinese term). Sigh… but slowly, after I engaged this tutor of mine, I was like… I am saved… Slowly, everything seem back on track. But of course, the tutor spent a lot of effort teaching me till before she left me when I was in Secondary 2,  she commented that while teaching me in primary sch, it was like vomit blood everyday… Then I realised that I was such a problem kid back then. Haha…

In Secondary sch, that was the time, I slowly show out my potential. Though I didnt go into those top schools which my sibling did… But I still exceled in the early part of my secondary school years. Sec 1 and 2 were my most marvellous years. Extre active both in class, CCAs, mostly on sports. First in my Express stream in E.maths when I was sec 1. Got scholarship somemore leh (S$300.00)!!! haha… Surprise both my parents but of course, my english balance the score… Got C6 or D7 I think… haha… In sport, I won many trophies either in track and field, sch sport days or game day. None was for academic. Maybe I dont think I was thatgood after all. For Sec 3 and 4, I saw my results like as if the 1997 economics crisis… from the peak fell all the way till the bottom. english C6 to D7… Pure science even worse… all the way D7 to F9… For all semesters from sec 3 to 4… these are the grades I saw often in my report cards. Maths… worse.. E.maths only managed B… or sometimes A… A.maths… instead of getting A… mine is always E or F.. haha… opposite. Only came to ‘O’ level, then I got B4 for physics and B3 for A.maths for the very first time. The marks were enough for me to get a place in Singapore Polytechnic.

And definitely, BGR came into the picture whe I was in Secondary sch… Sigh… coz primary was in boys’ school mah… Of so many secret admirers or love at first sight (which ever they can called as)… The girl who gave me the deepest impression was the girl I knew when I was in Sec 2. She is an Indonesian and I must say, the first time I ever saw her, it was like oops… She looks so special to me. She looks gentle and she has this very sweet look that can kill any guys… But too bad that now, she is married liao… Sigh… But that 1 years or more of memory will be something that I really want to remember for life. Hopefully she is still keeping those presents that I gave her… But pls hor.. those who know this girl that I am talking abt… esp the one who always bully me one… you should know who you are… a proud mother… Dont tease me for that… It is in past tense liao… Of course, there was a relationship which lasted less than a year which got good and bad memories which I dont want to talk much… Too laggy not too good. hehe…

My poly years nothing really much happening. Except that I learned how to skip class? haha… It was just that some class which was boring, our classroom usually end up on the pool table or lans game table. That time was this Red Alert 2 which almost everyone was so mad abt… Even during my secondary sch time, I dont think I was so engross in it. Almost everyday, we played multiplayer… haha… Beside studying, I did tennis as my CCA… didnt play much… even played also kena lost… Skill only meant for leisure play only… So, in the end, didnt really enjoy the games much. But the team spirit was definitely solid.

In NS, something that was new. Got a chance to shoot real bullets… haha… Truely a different experience that I have in life. 2 and 4 mths just passed and f course, learned a lot of things… Picked up night class in SP. Doing Advanced diploma in Strategic Marketing. The course coming to an end soon in mid-Sept 06.

Throughout this 13 years in Singapore, beside all the new knowledge that I gained from books or through teachers or tutors, I have create a big circle of friends around me. Giving me so much of happiness and joy. Thank you so much. No words can describe my deepest feeling for those who have accompanied me along the way. Not to mention those who encourage me, help me when I was down, giving me advises. Thank you so much, really. Appreciate all the friendship that I have gain throughout 13 years of stay here. Soon… In Oct 06, I will return back to the place where I once came here from. Of course, I will fly back to Singapore often and I really hope that we can still keep in touch years after years. In the mean time, do take care and thank you for those who read till the end. hehee… :Þ

*Will polish up this blog as I consider it as my 1st draft*

Exam Week (14/08 - 18/08)

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Sigh.. here it comes the exam week. Many friends of mine maybe wondering… "Huh? I thought you are working?". Ya… True that I am working but sometime, in nowadays society, having one diploma is not enough loh… Even a degree is so common nowadays. I am wondering what will happen to my children in the future. At least a Master degree?

Anyway, back to my topic. It will be my last major exams for my part time diploma at SP. Among so many modules that I took, I feel that this semester modules are basically more interesting. Especially the module on Global Marketing. It does applied to what I am working and my company deal with some international clients, for example, Japan, South Amercia (Argentina), Europe (England), USA, etc. So, it is definitely be useful. Even to open new market, for example, Vietnam, Thailand, UAE (Dubai).. I thinking on venturing into the Middle East market. Somemore, the project my group did is an analysis on Dubai, so.. hehee.. I already have started doing some basic research leh.. haha… But need to visit the place and see whether I can have find any reliable partner.

If any of you reading this blog entry and have friend/s or connection with someone in Dubai, PLS, kindly msg me… We can make an appointment one day but the connection must be related to textile industry or a person who has connection in textile industry in Dubai hor… Thank you leh…

Back to my exam… hehe… always got carried away… Fortunately, this time round, I only have two exams. One is on 16/08 and the other one is on 18/08. So far, I can say I am more or less got a pass liao… coz of my project works mostly got an A. Hehee… feel so proud… haha… Just a matter of getting a good A or B for my overall grade. So better work hard. Sigh… start to burn mid night oil from today onwards (11/08). Hopefully can get a better grades before I end my course in mid-Spet. For the past few modules, I didnt score that well… coz I was still serving NS… so cant have sufficient time to prepare. But this time round, definitely there will be no EXCUSE leh… Sigh.. Somemore my boss (dad) allows me to take off on that two days… So, better work hard… Got to go back and prepare my materials for tonight revision… Otherwise, I will get my backside burn when I get my reults. Haha… :Þ

Outing on 09/08/06

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

This outing I believe is the most special kind that I have so far. Coz this outing in the end turn out to be one of my BRD junior school mate b’day. It is definitely a long long story.

When I received the msg sometime last week from another BRD junior school mate of mine, the msg said "Party for all BRDian and ex-BRDian" kind of stuff. So, I was like, "Hmm… not bad… It is definitely a good time to meet up after 6 years or so since we graduate". At the same time, hopefully can meet up those who are like my juniors or teachers. BUT… one thing is that I dont know who was the organiser of this party as the msg read that food and drinks are free. So, I was like.. Wow… who was so kind to throw in a party that big. Curious, I replied that junior and he said dont know also (felt like slapping him next time I meet him. Haha…). But anyway, I asked some of my ex-classmates whom I am still in contact with to come along and I must say… Till we reach the place, we have no idea who organise it.

Upon reaching there, we then realise that it is a birthday BBQ… Simply coz of the banner put outside… The chalet was at Changi, the road along Changi Village. Directly opposite the SAF chalet. So, in stead of just go in and eat-all-we can, my friends and I drove to Changi Village to get some chocolate as a small gift. Anyway, we didnt eat much. The b’day gal, is actually one of my friend junior in a CCA club. There, I do met some of my junior as well. It is really nice seeing them… For some, we do keep in touch by MSN or friendster. So, not that stranger kind of feeling. Just that need to take a long time recall the name for some… Haha.. old liao… but it is just that we didnt see one another for such a long time. So, it is okie lah… But not for the next time we see one another again. No excuse. Hehee…

I do enjoy myself though my friends and I stayed there not long. Abt 2 hrs then we left the place. Heading to my home to park my car then we head for our late dinner. It was such a big jam at my home ECP exit at Fort Rd… There were vehicles just stopped, I am saying completely STOP at the exit of Fort Rd just to see the firework. "I was like #$%!*…". Haha… but it is definitely pose danger to other motorists. But as usual, my place was packed with cars outside and inside my carpark. Only left 2 lots… Somemore, a challenging one which I need to reverse all the way to park which I managed to park successfully. Then my friends and I sat in my friend’s car to somewhere near TKGS to have steamboat buffet dinner. I can say we chatted all sort of things, the past, the present and near future. Haha… Untill whenever we order for extra food, the serving size getting smaller and smaller… Thinking the manager hoping that we call for bill sooner instead of later. Haha… Anyway, 4 guys didnt caused much damage to them… I mean they still have enough food to serve other customers. Just kidding.. I am not those who have can "kill all food" stomach. Otherwise, I think I have to swim more laps whenever I return from work. Haha… Maybe swim around the whole Singapore… hehe…

Counting down to new life in Hk #1

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

For this blog, I do have some problem coming out the title coz my brain usually dont work that hard on weekends esp Sunday. Haha… From this blog onwards, I will try my best to write down what happen when I am in Singapore before I am leaving for HK to work. And once I am in Hk, I will start another one (thinking what name of the title will be?). hopeing that this will form a kind of series. Haha..

Frankly speaking, I feel that time flies very fast. When I 1st completed my NS in Apr 06 till now. Though only abt 4mths or less have passed. But I feel that so many things happened around. Of course, mostly for the good. Looking myself now, I am just 2 exams and 1 vacation module to go before I complete my night class at SP. Working with my dad and went back to Hk twice. The 1st trip was short, only 5 days and 2 days, I collected my pink IC. The 2nd trip is more of adapting life in HK office. I have a 9 days "orientation" in my dad HK office. It is very fun. Though the workforce is not as big as those we see in those HK TV drama shows abt family business then internal fighting kind of stuff like kill here and there to get the assets, my dad office is relatively a medium size. It used to be a very big one in the 80s’. But now since China open up their market and many foreign companies choose to go into China themselves instead of using middleman, got to cut here and there to save cost.

During that 9 days, i have learned a lot in an industry that I am totally have no knowledge in but it is one of the essential needs for human beings. Unless, as what i said in one of my blog, some "stupid" scientists create a protecting suit which look alike in the movie Fantastic 4. Then I will think of something to do… haha… Anyway, since I am in-touch with textile industry, whenever I buy clothing or myself, I am very particular the materials make. Like 100% cotton, 55%linen45%cotton, etc. These are the terms that I must get used to and I must learn or I should say must master the skill of hand feel the cloth and I can tell roughly what is the composition of the fabric w/o looking at the tag. Something which is challenging and new. I am very impressed when I visited one of my client in SIngapore and she can actually do that. I was totally surprise and admire her a lot. This can be done as long as I must put in hardwork. hmm… therefore, it will definitely be a challenging life when I go to Hk to work. In the mean time, sigh.. got to do my 5x newspaper articles and prepare for 2 exams.
