I believe what I experienced today (19/02/06) might well happen to anyone of us… It all happened when I need to get a water pump for my luo han fish tank in the morning.
I headed to Marine Parade n plan to park my car at a public car park behind "Sam’s Pet & Aquarium" Shop. I believe those stay in east coast n marine parade areas should know where I am referring to. Just to provide more information, the public car park behind the used-to-be cinema in Parkway.
When I drove in, I noticed the whole car park was full n there was a lady in Blue Honda Civic waiting a few parking lots near the front entrance of the car park. I moved in so as not to block the entrance n at the same time, tried my luck at the back of the car park since someone has been waiting at the front… True enough, I saw a van which the driver n passangers were loading up somewhere in the middle of the car park. So it hinted to me that they were abt to go. So, I put on my left signal light indicating my intention of parking n while doing so, they moved off. So, common sense say that I need to reverse n park my car.. n that’s when "Who has the rights" comes in…
The lady in Blue Honda Civic slowly moved front but that was when half of my car went into the lot then I noticed… While reversing, I noticed she was saying something.. In my mind, I can figured out what she wanted to say n when I alight from my car, that was what she said to me angrily…
"Hey, I have been waiting for parking lot for quite sometime n now you stole the lot. Do you have any courtesy?" she said… To reply that… I simply told her "Does that mean any car moving out whether from front or back, belong to you or you have the rights? Your car is so much away from the lot and that doesnt give you the immediate rights to have it unless you are the nearest among all the waiting cars. Anyway, I am only making purchase at the aquarium shop, you may choose to wait for my lot or other lots if you wish"… She didnt say any more thing but replied back "Never mind…" with a long face… That’s where I proceed on with my purchase which took only less than 10 mins. When I returned, I believed she found the lot that "she has the rights" to park.
At that point of time, there were only two cars waiting n that was hers n mine as it was only 1150hrs. I find it very ridculous that this is how our courtesy apply to… I mean not that I am trying to be rude but if that’s the case, LTA might well introduce Q numbers n earliest numbers get the lot which leave first. That may well solved any unnecessary fight or arguement over a car park lot which made headlines in the newspaper…
